At the European Hyperloop Week (EHW) last year, Hyperloop UPV presented Kénos & Atlas. Kénos, a fully-functional hyperloop vehicle, paired with Atlas, a vacuum-capable transportation tube. This comprehensive proposal, supported by MEAN WELL, not only stood out as the most complete proposal in hyperloop history but also earned special recognition for its innovative Tube Design.
EHW, a prestigious global hyperloop event in its 3rd edition held in 2023 at the University of Edinburgh, attracted over 40 teams and companies with a unified aim of advancing hyperloop technology. Meanwhile, Hyperloop UPV, comprising 50 students from Universitat Politècnica de València, has collaborated towards making hyperloop technology possible for nearly a decade.
With MEAN WELL's support, the team used UHP-500-024 to power the critical boards, which played a pivotal role in monitoring Atlas's state, ensuring pressure control and leak detection, indispensable for vacuum-related procedures. Additionally, to showcase Kénos' movement during runs, Hyperloop UPV envisioned integrating cameras inside the tubes. The team utilized the UHP-1500-024 power supply, energizing three cameras along the tube and illuminating the interior with LED stripes. This pioneering approach opened new doors, marking a significant step forward in unexplored possibilities within hyperloop technology.
Despite the unforeseen challenges faced during the competition, including delays in tubes reassembly and damages due to overheating, Hyperloop UPV met demanding requirements within tight timeframes. In spite of these hurdles, Hyperloop UPV secured a 3rd place at the competition and a special award to the infrastructure. This resilience reflected Hyperloop UPV’s commitment to shaping the future, in alignment with MEAN WELL’s vision.
MEAN WELL has committed to fostering innovation. Through consistent engagement in projects like Hyperloop UPV's, offering technical support and essential resources, MEAN WELL actively invests in nurturing the future generation of engineers and innovators. Coleman Liu, General Manager of MEAN WELL Europe, emphasized this dedication, stating, "Our future relies on young engineers, and MEAN WELL is devoted to imparting our expertise to these talented individuals." This steadfast support continues to drive groundbreaking innovations across diverse scientific projects and endeavors.
